Warm enough to wear under your outer carrier in the coldest of nights. A little too warm to have on indoors.
Awesome in every way and warm
Our agency made the change to outer carriers with MOLLE several years ago to take some of the weight off our officer's duty belts, but this change resulted in a separate problem. During cold weather months, if officers chose to wear their standard issued jackets, it would cover up some of their essential equipment which was now mounted on the outer carrier. This Softshell Pullover is wearable under their outer carriers, and can be layered with long or short sleeve uniform shirts or thermals depending on the temperature, and does not add significant bulk to the officer. We also tested the much more expensive Flying Cross version of this pullover, and the First Tactical is better built, more comfortable, and warmer. Our patrol officers will now be getting issued this instead of a traditional zip up over-the-vest jacket going forward. We will still issue a traditional rain jacket for obvious reasons (keeping equipment on the vest as dry as possible), but this pullover does a good job of shedding light rain/snow, although not waterproof.
Jacket is very warm and works great under outer carrier. Why wear an OC if you are going to wear a coat over all your gear. Way warmer than Flying Cross brand I have. Patches and stripes went on well and look sharp. Actually had comment from other PDs boss that it looked great. K9s hair and snow brush right. Water beaded up and rolled off, did not soak in.
This piece has already been through multiple cardiac arrest, trauma alerts, and combative patients and has held up beautifully. It’s super comfortable and I wear it every shift.
